We Love Having Art in the Salon

TressWorks is dedicated to supporting local artists by periodically showcasing their work. The artwork adds another layer of personality to TressWorks and gives our clients an opportunity to experience something beautiful while they're here.

From time to time, we'll host small art openings where clients, friends, neighbors, and members of the community can come together, meet the artist, enjoy the space, and celebrate their work.

We are excited to continue creating a place where hair, art, and community can come together.

Juan Vargas was born in Valparaíso, Chile—a colorful coastal city known for its hills, ocean views, funiculars, and murals. As a child, he loved to draw with his grandmother, who always told him he was an artist.

After leaving Chile following the 1973 military coup, Juan moved first to Paris and later to the United States. He earned a degree in visual communications in Chicago and worked as a book designer before eventually settling in Monterey, California.

In 1999, Juan suffered a massive stroke that left him unable to use his right hand. While recovering, he began drawing with his left hand and never stopped. His artistic style continues to evolve, but each piece he creates brings him joy—and he hopes it brings joy to others, too.

Whether you're visiting us for an appointment or joining us for one of our occasional art gatherings, we hope TressWorks feels like a place where you can slow down, connect, and enjoy something beautiful.
